Make a Claim

Ever ask yourself why you have to pay for insurance. Here's the reason: Claims! Yep, some of us get a little unlucky and get in an auto accident. Whether the accident was your fault or not, you have to report the claim. Most companies have a 24 hour claims hotline.

Click on Make a Claim for a directory to the phone number or website where you can begin the claims process. Be sure you have all of the information of all of the parties involved before calling. If you or one of your passengers were injured, seek medical attention first, then report the claim. YOU are most important! You have a reasonable amount of time to let your company know what happened.

We will be happy to offer any assistance we can.  Remember though, we are agents and claims are not our specialty.  Claims are directly handled by individuals specifically trained in claims handling and they are better prepared to answer your questions.

What Steps Should I Take if I Have an Accident?

Q: What should I do if I just had an auto accident?

A: Make sure you and your passengers are OK. Dial 911 on your cell phone or get someone else at the scene to call if you or a passenger are experiencing a medical emergency. Once you are sure you are not hurt, warn oncoming traffic by activating your hazard lights or by carefully exiting your car and setting flares if you have them.

Notify the police if the other parties are not cooperative. Oregon law requires that each party remain at the scene until information has been exchanged.

Exchange information with the other driver. Be sure to write down:

  1. the license plate number for all involved vehicles,
  2. drivers license numbers of all other drivers and witnesses,
  3. names of all drivers and witnesses,
  4. addresses,
  5. phone numbers of all drivers and witnesses,
  6. name of the insurance company,
  7. policy number.

DO NOT ADMIT FAULT for the accident. Stay calm and do not argue with the other driver, even if you believe the other driver is completely at fault.

Report the accident. Most companies can take your claim information 24 hours a day. While reporting your claim, be sure to write down:

The name of your adjuster or claim representative,
Your adjuster's phone number and extension,
Your claim number.

You will need these things when calling back to check on your claim. Your adjuster will likely be the only one you talk to through the whole claims process. Keep his or her number and extension and your claim number always handy. Call your insurance agent at 503-489-3143 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
